About
What inspired this idea
After volunteering for an organization called STEPS to Health, a group that helps disadvantaged families with overweight or obese children find access to affordable resources at the Boston Children's Hospital, I was concerned about the lack of effective monitoring devices for children with chronic diseases that require outside hospital management.
I was particularly interested in creating a solution for children with diabetes given it requires lots of repetitive management and can be bothersome for children who might not understand the importance of these activities. The solution seemed simple: develop a mobile monitoring method that is affordable, easy, fun, and approachable.
DiaPets attempts to teach children how manageable their disease is so they can feel empowered over their conditions. It also encourages closer patient management given the real-time blood sugar monitoring and mood diary.
The goal of DiaPets is to make healthy habits lasting habits.
